A distinctly Anglican looking design from supporters of Melbourne City FC; the club that forms part of the “City” triumvirate together with Manchester City FC and New York City FC. But is there really only one team in Melbourne?

“Spain is Different” is an English-language phrase that our Iberian cousins commonly use among themselves whenever they idly summarise their country’s foibles and idiosyncrasies over an late afternoon drink. Take half an hour to sit and chat to your Spanish host about their customs and traditions over a crisp caña or smooth sherry and you will inevitably be told those exact three words eventually.
As ever at FBTG, we like to look at world cultures through the lens of Football fandom. Is Spain Different when it comes to the way in which their fans behave at games? So the Berlin Zoo has a new bear cub. The female baby polar bear, born on December the 1st, has been named “Hertha” in honour of Hertha BSC, a professional Football club I hope you are familiar with. If the recent performance of Auckland’s Football clubs in international competition is anything to go by, the Lilywhites may just well make it to the FIFA Club World Cup, where Continue reading
One of Catalonia‘s lesser known clubs, but the leftist “Desperdicis” of UE Sant Andreu make for a colourful bunch.

El Kolectivo Sur is the ultra group of Xerez Deportivo CF, a young Football club from the Spanish city of Jerez de la Frontera founded by fans as financial wobbles hit Xerex CD, the stalwart La Segunda outfit for long periods of time. We caught the club’s home league fixture against Atlético Espleño before grabbing a cold Cruzcampo with two of the group’s leading members to talk about Football support in the Sherry City. Both Continue reading
