We at FBTG HQ would publically like to wish a very happy birthday to the pioneering club of our adopted home; the majestic, exciting and fearless Xerez Deportivo Football Club.
A club from the heartlands of Spanish Football where local youths first observed British sailors and traders idly kicking a leather ball around and decided to mimick their behaviour that now serves as a middle finger up in the air to corporate greed and business interests that, in the eyes of many, have tainted the modern game beyond repair. Born from the ashes of the historic club of Jerez de la Frontera, Xerez Deportivo FC was supposed to take the place of floundering outfit Xerez CD before a new buyer was found and its debts wiped clean only 5 days after the local community put pen to paper on the new club in 2013. Since then, this small, traditional community has supported its project without fail. 9 years later, Xerez Deportivo FC sits 1 league higher than the club it was supposed to replace in the pyramid of Spanish club Football.
And long may it last. We can’t wait to be a part of next year’s celebrations.
