The city of Pamplona may be located in the autonomous community of Navarre but its history is one of common tradition with the mysterious Basque people in the region next door. It is the single city of the area where the Basque language has historically been spoken on the Iberian Peninsula that was successfully conquered by the Romans. The fact that the modern city is not located within the boundaries of the Basque region may be the single greatest legacy of Roman interaction with the Basques that resisted the marauding empire.

The Football club of Pamplona, Club Atlético Osasuna, has achieved promotion back to La Liga. We would like to congratulate all employees, fans and associates of the club on doing so.

It is safe to say that Málaga CF is a big club that has fallen out of the company to which it belongs. A deserved La Liga stalwart if there ever was one, a dismal 2017/2018 campaign saw Málaga finish in last place and suffer relegation to La Segunda. Champions’ League quarter finals away at the Westfalenstadion now look like a distant memory, and Continue reading
One of the things that I lament about British and certainly English Football culture is the distinct lack of the amount of scarves that one sees on the terraces. As their heroes walk out onto the pitch in Seville, Stuttgart and Szczecin, fans Continue reading
In a recent Friday night conversation with a fellow Football culture enthusiast over a beer, the question came up as to which of the thousands of the world’s professional and semi-professional Football clubs were the FBTG writers planning on dedicating blog posts to next. Such Continue reading
