Ultras Aufkleber of the Week – Brisbane Roar

Stuck a bit out of my reach, hence the awkward angle. Our next post will cover The Roar of Queensland and the surprisingly exotic history behind one of the A-League’s most decorated franchises. Perhaps not the most creative of designs, but the quality of A-League support is certainly underappreciated internationally even if the league struggles with consistent attendance figuers.

Ultras Aufkleber of the Week – Lok Leipzig

A difficult club for many to like but an impossible club to ignore, 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig is one of 2 highly-charged clubs from Leipzig in Saxony with ultras and fanatics known for their connections to far right politics. This puts them at complete odds to the far left “Diablos” ultras of BSG Chemie Leipzig in one of the most fascinating German cities in the context of Football fan culture.

Ultras Aufkleber of the Week – Borussia Mönchengladbach

Perennial overachievers in the Bundesliga, Borussia Mönchengladbach are an easy-to-like side for foreign enthusiasts of German Football but fans get their fare share of animosity within the country. Gladbach ultras share a friendship with Union Berlin but are otherwise pretty much hated universally from the big clubs in the league. This design was seen in Spain.

Ultras Aufkleber of the Week – Atlético de Madrid

The Frente Atlético is one of the most high profile ultra fan groups across the Football landscape in Spain. Their members miss the historic home of Atleti the famous Vicente Calderon, but they are slowly finding home in the brand new Wanda in the east ide of Madrid. The right-leaning Frente Atlético ultras share a friendship with Gol Sur from Real Betis. This design is very creative and well executed, and the bear that is the symbol of Madrid city makes for an excellent subject of this Aufkleber.

Ultras Aufkleber of the Week – Denver Broncos

A less than chivalrous design brought to you by somebody who is clearly a Denver Broncos fan (NFL in case you were wondering). We cannot say we are fans of the…. theme of this Aufkleber, but the colours contrast well in spite of its vulgarity. Moreover, it is interesting to observe fans of teams, clubs and franchises in other sports taking inspiration from Football fan groups and adapting their practices to their own needs. We at FBTG have previously made the point that far from seeing themselves as culturally superior (as many outsiders like to claim), US citizens who follow team sports often display an alacrity to “copy” (for lack of a better word) fan customs they observe in stadia around the world. NFL fans creating Football-Ultra style stickers and posting them around your city is perhaps a good example of this.

I Just Can’t Get Enough

Spanish football badges

Not wanting to waste more money on the metro, I bet with myself that I could make it back from the office to my home where I would be working for the rest of the day in time for my next meeting. The emergency dash to the HR office had taken care of my immediate concern with time to spare, so I decided to walk back from the centre of town towards my flat, snaking my way through El Born district. But in spite of my haste, one shop window still caught my eye and stopped me in my tracks.
